Error - dependency is not satisfied. (solved)

Post by Wompoo »

I am trying to install Virtual box to run Profili2 in Linux Mint 17.3 KDE.
I have been following the instruction on this page: https://mintguide.org/system/266-virtua ... -mint.html

When I tried to install the first file "virtual box" using GDebi installer, I got this error notice:

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libdevmapper1.02.97(>=2:1.02.97)

How do I fix this?

Edit:
I found the solution here: viewtopic.php?t=216254

It seems I had downloaded the wrong file. It should have been the Ubuntu 14.1 file.

By reading the instructions...
1. Download DEB package the latest version from the official website. Download (For Linux Mint 17.3 - Vivid version...
There is no Vivid version there to download so whatever you downloaded isn't for Linux Mint 17.3.

You need this link, and you need to download a version explicitly for Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (Vivid).

Linux Mint 17.3 is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS so you will need to download deb file for Ubuntu 14.04 ("Trusty").

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

For Linux Mint 18.x, it will be Ubuntu 16.04 ("Xenial") deb file.

Download AMD64 deb file if you have 64-bit Linux Mint 17.3 installed, i386 deb file if you have 32-bit Linux Mint 17.3 installed.
