Hi!
I'm having an bit of an aesthetic issue with the installation of FreeOffice by SoftMaker.
When I installed it, the icons for other apps software got replaced by the FreeOffice equivalents.
The Gnumeric and LibreOffice files I have show the PlanMaker file icon.
Likewise the LibreOffice Writer files show the TextMaker icon.
When I click on these files, though, they do open the correct software.
So FreeSoft hasn't overriden the default programs. Just the default icons.
Does anyone know if you can change some settings to make sure the icons showing icons show the icon for the default software?
I'd just like to have Gnumeric, AbiWord and LibreOffice files showing the correct default icons instead of only the FreeSoft equivalent.
Thanks in advance!

You could try manually resetting each changed icon.
Right click on desktop to bring down the menu.
Right click on the affected program from the drop down list.
Click on the Icon field and search for the correct icon.
Btw, you could also try contacting the creator and letting them know about the problem.

Re: Icon issue with FreeOffice by SoftMaker
Thanks.
Hadn't tried changing the individual icons like that before.
That's cool.
Nor did I think about contacting Soft Maker about that issue.
That's just way to obvious (or something).

Re: Icon issue with FreeOffice by SoftMaker
Out of interest (passing) why do you have FreeOffice and Abiword and LibreOffice?
And
I've had a look at FreeOffice quite neat but a year 'out-of-date' and I found that I could not get a decent font on the toolbars etc. Have you cracked that?
And
No issues at ll here with icons changing but I noted that when installing it updates all the icons - perhaps that is the issue?
As you can see I have nothing else to do!

Re: Icon issue with FreeOffice by SoftMaker
Hi hi, leadwtZ:
1) If I download MS files for my classes, it doesn't always work quite right in LibreOffice, but will in FreeOffice.
I also like to tinker with different software too. Just because.
2) I haven't figured out how to get all the fonts I like on FreeOffice.
Might not be a problem with the not-free full-blown version.
But I'm skint and can't really shell out for much.
3) The icons thing is more aesthetics than anything else.
It hasn't effected the default apps to open files or any of that.
I too know what it's like to have a bit too much time on one's hands.

Re: Icon issue with FreeOffice by SoftMaker
Hi again M_Mynaardt,,
I take the point about MS stuff. I like LO a great deal and used to wack out some very good (in my opinion) newsletters etc. however it does have problems with some MS formats as you say.
I tend ask people to send stuff as PDF as it seems to be a freely available option for just about everyone.
Still working on the format in FreeOffice but need more time. I cannot hack it as not a programmer so it is a matter of 'playing' (potential disaster scenario - ).
Well that's enough effort for a Sunday!

Oops. I forgot that not everyone uses XFCE. I'm glad you were able to understand my reply anyhowM_Mynaardt wrote:Thanks.
