I have no solution to the problem, but a workaround could be to install an add-on to the browser (known to be available to Chrom[e|ium] and Firefox) that converts magnet links to torrent files which then can be opened with qBittorent.
Linux Mint 17.3 64bit KDE @ Asus B150M-A, i3 6100, Crucial 16GB DDR4, Crucial BX100
One bit says: YES, the other answers: NO.. Guess who's he and who's she..! ;)

G'day Mintnix!
Could you describe your problem here or open an issue on our Github page? I'd love to get this fixed if at all possible. :)

Cheers!
Fred

i was going to submit an issue on your GitHub repo, but now it looks like the problem might be with the firejail config for Firefox/Waterfox - i'm not entirely sure - also, the problem seems to have changed

the problem i originally reported here was this: if Waterfox is jailed and i clicked a magnet: link, qBittorrent (not jailed) would display an I/O error message saying the that torrent file did not exist - opening the URI from within qB worked fine however (open > URL)

now however this has changed: with a jailed Waterfox, if i click a magnet: link, qB (again, not jailed) apparently cannot access its config file and therefore the first thing i see is the legal agreement notice thingy - after accepting, qB processes the magnet: link just fine

not sure what changed here, whether it was a LM update or a qB update or what - currently i'm running:

Mint 18.2 KDE
Waterfox 55.2.2
qBittorrent 3.3.16
firejail 0.9.50-3
