Please post what printer/scanner you have and also what you have tried. There just isnt enough info to even begin to help you at this point.

Which version of Ubuntu and which version & desktop environment in Mint? If you enter inxi -Fxz in a Terminal, copy and paste the output here, that should provide enough information.

Do you have links to any instructions or guides you used to get the device working on Ubuntu? If so, hopefully they can be adapted to Mint. So far, I've not found any direct, relevant reference to that model. There may also be a driver for a similar model which will work.

unfortunately the drivers can't be found on official canon site, and on ubuntu os the scanner work perfectly whit simple scan, whit mint the software can't detect the device. the manual dvd joint whit the printer talk about just for win ad ios, compatibility whit linux is declared on the box. i hope to resolve whit installation of the right drivers package but i don't know where i can find it (if exist). really thanks to your help

Reason: Adding [code] tags. They retain some formatting that makes your output easier to read.

You can install XSane. I works well on Linux Mint.

so one can use the open-source of SANE to run the scanner; or the software that Canon provide;

SANE is the back-end; many folks use a simple front-end; eg SIMPLE SCAN or one can use a front-end with more options; eg XSANE but if Simple Scan can't "see" the scanner; it would seem unlikely xsane would .......

1) you could try adding the latest version of the SANE: you add the Rolf Bensch ppa; this is where the developers of SANE offer the latest wares; https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+arch ... u/sane-git

........ please ask for detailed instructions if you need them ........

2) you could try installing the software that Canon supply; to see if it will "See" the scanner

to do that, go here http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/cont ... 51901.html and click to download and SAVE what will be scangearmp-mg2500series-2.20-1-deb.tar.gz and it should end up in your Downloads folder

then open a terminal; copy the commands below; paste them into the terminal; line by line; hit the ENTER key after each paste ..

Code: Select all

cd Downloads

Code: Select all

tar -zxvf scangearmp-mg2500series-2.20-1-deb.tar.gz

Code: Select all

cd scangearmp-mg2500series-2.20-1-deb

Code: Select all

sudo ./install.sh
then to the run the programme ScanGearMP, issue the command

Code: Select all

scangearmp
from the terminal ....... let us know if it works; if you do this
