Why does gthumb turn sharp images blurry?

If I open an image with gthumb, it is sharp initially but after a few seconds it abruptly turns blurry. Can anyone tell me why this happens, and how to correct it?

Never mind, I got irfanview working. Best ever and even comes close to gimp/photoshop for manipulation.
