Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia Cinnamon - Flatpak problem

I hope this is the correct thread to post this, but I have a problem with the "Flatpak" section in the new Program Manager: It's empty.

(I tried to install flatpaks in 18.2, but never got anywhere due to errors such as "Invalid crypto engine" "Unable to complete signature verification". I don't know if that has anything to do with my current problem. I purged flatpak completely before I upgraded to 18.3.)

This is what my Flatpak page looks like:


(Except for the black bar. I't just in the image, not the real window. Dunno why that happened.)

When I start it from the terminal, this is the output:

Close Software Manager and open the Terminal from your menu and try running the following command:

flatpak remote-add flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Unless it gives an error, it will have been successful. After doing this start Software Manager again and check the Flatpak category.

but still the flatpak category empty

Are the people having problems using 32- or 64-bit Mint?

I've installed both (MATE) versions on different machines - the 64-bit shows available Flatpak apps, but the 32-bit doesn't. Using the terminal on the 32-bit machine I was able to see that Flatpak itself and the Flathub repo were installed, and I installed an app (which started up ok). Mintinstall *still* didn't show anything in that category, so if my experience is replicated by others perhaps the problem is with 32-bit Mintinstall.

The repo was already installed here. The command flatpak remote-add flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo just gives me error: Remote flathub already exists.

I suspect the problem may not be flatpak itself, but Gnome's crypto/key thingy. I've googled loads of pages that mention the error, but none of them have a solution.

I'm using the 64bit version, btw.

If you get "error: Remote flathub already exists" please try removing it first with flatpak remote-delete flathub and then add it back with flatpak remote-add flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

For the others, please try these commands and share any output you get here:
flatpak update
and:
flatpak remote-ls flathub

It very much seems like Gnome is the culprit here, not flatpak. I've also tried to purge and then reinstall some of the Gnome stuff I thought might have something to do with this, but to no avail.

Version 7.8.9 is out. It fixes the empty flatpak category on 32-bit.

We still don't have a fix for people experiencing "GPGME: Invalid crypto engine" errors, though we believe the issue is with libostree (a Flatpak dependency).

I've actually solved that problem by updating (i.e. compiling and installing newer versions) of the relevant Gnome keyring/crypto libraries.

I'll post a howto when I get the time. I'm still getting the error message The Flatpak remote flathub could not be scanned: OstreeGpgError:
GPG signatures found, but none are in trusted keyring (2) though. It doesn't say what packages cause the problem, so the error message isn't helpful at all.

I've been able to install some Flatpak apps, but not all of them, it seems. I'm really stumped as how to import the necessary keys and make them "trusted". The Gnome docs are horrible, and the little Flatpack documentation there is seems to be aimed at developers; while I did find some pertinent search results, the actual Flatpack pages are non-existant, ie. 404's.

In short, as I suspected the original problem was caused by Gnome, neither Flatpack nor Mint. The remaining hurdle is due to sloppy/user unfriendly programming by the Flatpack and Gnome teams.

This problem appeared recently for me. 18.3 / x86_64. I've tried remove-and-readd the flatpak repository, but no joy.
gnome-keyring version is 3.18.3-0ubuntu2

Update (5 February 2018): I installed today's new patches and it's working again. Thanks to whoever fixed it.
