Plex Media Server and how to read external drives

Post by Destry » Thu Dec 07, 2017 3:00 am

I installed Plesk Media server on my LM 17.3 KDE and first discovered Plesk would not detect media outside the root directory. So I did a few searches and found a youtube video that walked me right through adding the permissions needed to allow Plesk to access media on external drives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYrMj8kPty8 I followed the steps and everything went great. The issue now is if I click on a live link in my emails or outside of a Firefox web page, it opens the page to my Plesk server so I have to copy link addresses and paste them into the address bar on a new tab to visit the page. :?

New update:
I just installed LM 18.3 KDE and figured out how to get plex to read the external drives containing my movies.

I installed KVPM volume and partition manager from the software manager. I opened my root directory as root and created a new folder and named it plex. I then ran KVPM manager and right clicked on my external drive that contained my movies and unmounted it. I then changed mount point to my new plex folder. I went back to Dolphin and opened the plex folder in the root directory and i was viewing all the movies and folders from my external drive. Plex can now access the external drive.

How to remove for a clean install:

Steps:
1)Run

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge plexmediaserver

2) Remove bulk of plex files

Code: Select all

sudo rm -rf /var/lib/plexmediaserver

3) Remove plex user (very important!)

Code: Select all

sudo userdel plex

4) Remove both /etc/init/plexmediaserver.conf and /etc/default/plexmediaserver

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/init/plexmediaserver.conf
sudo rm /etc/default/plexmediaserver
