Software suggestions for archiving GMail?

Post by cecilieaux » Sat Dec 09, 2017 6:19 am

Running Linux Mint 18 Sarah x86_64 (about to upgrade to 18.3) and I am looking to back up my old GMail so I can clean out the online inbox of detritus as I go into retirement.

I would like the online GMail, which is at about 45% full to be clean of stuff older than say, two years, and stuff that I don't need for reference. I would like something I could have to look up old mail for nostalgia or reference I didn't think was important but suddenly becomes so (I keep all the "welcome" emails for sites and services, for example).

Questions:

1) What software do you use/recommend?

2) Does my archiving strategy sound right? What is yours?

Thanks in advance,
C

Use Thunderbird in IMAP mode.

But that would delete on my computer anything I delete online, no?

Take a backup of the profile directory then delete what you wish.
