Signal messenger standalone version [SOLVED]

Post by 52ROSt »

LM 17.3, 64 bit, KDE

Signal private messenger, the one recommended by E. Snowden, announced a standalone
version also for "Linux distributions supporting APT, like Ubuntu and Debian".
https://signal.org/blog/standalone-signal-desktop/

It can be downloaded from https://signal.org/download/

As it is not yet in the LM SW repository, I wonder if it can be installed without destroying my LM installation.

I appreciate your comments!

I'm running it, and don't seem to have any problems.

@ Moem
Thanks for your information.
After reading it, I installed it by following the "migration to standalone". No problem during installation and migration.

Signal standalone version works perfectly fine.

Now I hope they enable video and audio communication in the standalone version! Will a nice replacement for Skype.

Signal is a replacement for Whatsapp now that Whatsapp is owned by Facebook. I am about to install Signal instead of Whatsapp and as a replacement for Skype when I can talk people away from the dark side.

Last time I looked at it , the stand-alone version offered to sync a laptop ( for example ) to a mobile device
but I couldn't see a way to use it from laptop to another user's laptop .

Is that still the case ?

PS - Moxie Marlinspike is one of the good guys ..... IMO - :D
