[SOLVED]18.3 and VLC

Post by Ozo »

VLC is in the software manager and I launched it and it looks ok. Then I played a cd and that was ok. However; there is no VLC icon listed on the menu. While unnecessary as the media starts automatically, I expected to see it there. Is it supposed to be there?

18.3 Cinnamon (architecture unknown). Please note that not everyone can see signatures, and they're not static to each post that's made. With that, it's better to post it in the thread.

Hmmm, it should be in the menu. I don't know about 18.3 Cinnamon, but in at least some Mint versions you can right click on the Menu button to edit the menu.

Ah yes, there is a very slick menu editor in Cinnamon 18.3. There was VLC and Sound and Video was the item unchecked. Once checked there was VLC in the menu. Thank you. :D

Still, it is odd that searches did not find that.

Ordinarily applications are added to the menu when you install them. It is odd.

The VLC package loaded correctly(?) and was added to the menu. I could see it in the menu editor and its box was checked by default The sound and video block was unchecked which is what is odd.

When I searched at top of main menu, before vlc was listed on the main menu, I could not find it. As soon as I select Sound and Audeo in the editor to be listed on the main menu, Ta da there it is when I search. That search box is pretty limited as to what it searches in evidently. Just the menu items are searched through and then only the items that have been selected in the menu editor.
