Post by roug1234 »

Hi.

I used linux mint in the old days, but the last years been using ubuntu/ kubuntu and lubuntu, all of this i have fixed screen tearing, but on mint that was not possible because of old xorg 1.18, i see now that 18.3 is in beta and i was wondering if its using xorg 1.19? so i can fix screen tearing and use it as my main os?

Hello,
18.3 is not in beta, it's out; your source seems to be a bit behind the times. As for the screen tearing, I'm not sure but someone here will know.

You can also install xorg 1.19 on LM, packages are available in the repositories. Only LM devs choose not to upgrade to xorg 1.19 still in official releases.

Make a backup before you proceed.

Installing might not always work flawlessly, needing user intervention to resume installation :

Code: Select all

apt update
apt install xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-legacy-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-video-all-hwe-16.04
apt install -f
Reboot when done.

Totally needed this for version 18.3. I'm seeing little or no graphical glitches whatsoever now. Thank goodness.

It's a shame, because I was about to dump Xfce and go with a DE that fully supports Wayland (Xfce is still stuck in X11).
