previews/thumbnials only partly working on Samba share

Hello forum,

I store photos on my private LAN-server (Ubuntu 16.04) using a Samba share. I have 2 clients (Linux Mint 18.1.) in my LAN which have access to this Samba shares.

Client #1 has a strange behaviour regarding thumbnails/previews using Caja:

local files:
previews/thumbnails fully work on local files (jpg, jpeg, mp4,...)

as file type Caja shows for local files:
jpeg: "jpeg image"
jpg: "jpeg image

files on my samba share:
previews/thumbnails on samba only work for jpeg, mp4, but NOT for jpg
If I change the file extension from jpg -> jpeg, I have previews on samba.

as file type Caja shows for samba files:
jpeg: "jpeg image"
jpg: "jpg document"

in Caja settings I have enabled previews "always" and sufficient file size (2 GB)

As client #2 shows all thumbnails/previews on samba share, I suspect that this is an issue of client #1 (and not a server issue)

Does one of you have any suggestions how I could fix this?
