(Solved) Update Manager Error

Post by felemur »

I'm getting this error message every time I do any updates. Not sure what it means, but it does not seem to stop the update process.

My suggestion would be to delete the chrome beta repo as it's actually pointing to the same repo as chrome stable.

I've never tried this method but you should be able to find something that refers to Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome-beta.list in Update Manager > Edit > Software Sources > Additional Repositories (or PPAs). You could simply uncheck the one for chrome-beta (or highlight it and click Remove.)

When done, click Refresh back in the main Update Manager window and your errors should be gone.

Good luck.

Thanks.

Couple of questions.

Since I use the beta version of Chrome, should I do it the other way around and remove the Chrome stable list instead?

Also, what is Mint using these for? Does this just tell it where to download the latest versions, or check for latest, or what?

You could do it the other way around, although I find it strange that it points to stable:

Code: Select all

Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome-beta.list
           deb [arch=amd64] http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main
These let Mint know where to check/get updates for what you've installed.

OK, thanks.

I've removed the stable one. As you say, they do both have the exact same contents pointing to stable.

After refreshing the update manager, I got this:

Code: Select all

W: Target Packages (main/binary-amd64/Packages) is configured multiple times in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:1 and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:2
W: Target Packages (main/binary-all/Packages) is configured multiple times in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:1 and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:2
W: Target Translations (main/i18n/Translation-en_CA) is configured multiple times in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:1 and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:2
W: Target Translations (main/i18n/Translation-en) is configured multiple times in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:1 and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:2
W: Target Packages (main/binary-amd64/Packages) is configured multiple times in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:1 and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:3
W: Target Packages (main/binary-all/Packages) is configured multiple times in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:1 and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:3
W: Target Translations (main/i18n/Translation-en_CA) is configured multiple times in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:1 and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:3
W: Target Translations (main/i18n/Translation-en) is configured multiple times in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:1 and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list:3
W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb stable InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'i386'
W: GPG error: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/colomboem/xUbuntu_16.04 Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY E3757B8E0D988D6E
W: The repository 'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/colomboem/xUbuntu_16.04 Release' is not signed.
So, I removed Signal, as it turned out to be almost useless, then removed it's entry in the sources list, refreshed the Update Manager and got this:

Code: Select all

W: Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as repository 'http://dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb stable InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'i386'
W: GPG error: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/colomboem/xUbuntu_16.04 Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY E3757B8E0D988D6E
W: The repository 'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/colomboem/xUbuntu_16.04 Release' is not signed.

OK, so found what the software was causing the "colomboem" thingy mentioned above - it was a program called Dukto. I removed it, removed the line from the sources list and re-ran the Refresh on the update manger, and no more errors - BIG THANKS for helping.
