How To: Install dansguardian with GUI on Mint

Postby Dean » Thu May 28, 2009 4:17 pm

These instructions were originally taken from a How To from the Ubuntu forums and slightly modified/simplified to work smoothly on mint. If you have any problems or suggestions to make this installation process smoother please feel free to post it.

Original Post on Ubuntu Forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=843510

First begin by opening up terminal and install these packages

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gambas2-runtime gambas2-gb-qt gambas2-gb-form gambas2-gb-form-dialog gambas2-gb-qt-kde gambas2-gb-qt-kde-html
sudo apt-get install dansguardian tinyproxy firehol

Then download the latest Web Content Control Deb file from https://launchpad.net/webcontentcontrol/+download and open with the default GDebi Package Installer.

To make a short cut simply right click on the Desktop and Create Launcher and point to (command) /usr/bin/webcontentcontrol

When you install the the Web Content Control package it will automatically configure Dans Guardian while also backing up the original configuration files so that if you have to uninstall the Web Content Control package the original configuration will be restored.

Before posting any questions please refer to the original How To. There are a few tweaks and trouble shooting tips included as well as a few posts that may answer your questions.

according to the webcontentcontrol's launchpad page, you can now add a ppa for it ( https://launchpad.net/~zohn-joidberg/+archive/ppa ) so that you'll get automatic updates for it, rather than installing it using gdebi.
If you have a question that has been answered and solved, then please edit your original post and put a [SOLVED] at the end of your subject header
Hint - use a google search including the search term site:forums.linuxmint.com

Your right emorrp1 if you've already installed the Web Content Control then you can simply add the repositories to your etc/apt/source.list and easily receive updates. Thanks for adding that :)
