I'm using Linux Mint 18 Sarah (mate).
After boot up the update shield icon shows a tick to say that the system is up to date.
However if I wait a couple of minutes it may turn blue with an (English) exclamation mark ! to say there are updates available.
Or if I right click the shield icon and choose refresh it may say there are updates available.
It never did this with Mint 17.3
Why is there a delay?
Is this normal?

Re: Update-Need to refresh to get latest updates
Because your package list doesn't immediately auto-refresh after boot by default.Catchpole wrote:Why is there a delay?
Quite. If you'd like to adjust the behavior, right-click on its tray icon, select Preferences, then the Auto-Refresh button, and set to your liking. (this is how to do it in Cinnamon, assuming MATE does the same or similar)Catchpole wrote:Is this normal?

Re: Update-Need to refresh to get latest updates
The default setting (after booting up) is to refresh the list in 10 minutes, then every 2 hours. If you want, you can change this in Update Manager by clicking on Edit > Preferences > Auto-refresh
I'm guessing this behaviour changed in a newer version of mintupdate as the reason you notice a difference.
EDIT: Late to the party again!

Re: Update-Need to refresh to get latest updates
The 10 minutes delay after login in is the same in 17.3.
