Spam Notifications
I appear to be getting spam notifications (like junk mail) pop up every now and then at the top right corner of my screen. They all link to an advertising site when clicked on. How can I determine where these spam notifications are fired from so I can stop the spam? I ran an ESET antivirus scan but came up with nothing. I also looked at my syslog but didn't find much. Anyone have any experience with this adware?

Re: Spam Notifications
How on earth did you manage to get those?
What did you install that wasn't in the official repo's? Full list please.

Re: Spam Notifications
I get some of those from a news reader site I signed up for, now I wish I had not.
just went thru my Preferences and I don't see a thing about Newsreaders.
I think this is our answer:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pu ... ns-firefox
a short read on that, seems to be telling me that if I click on one of the Push Notifications and bring it up to view, that we can look at the left side of the URL and click on the circle with the " i " inside it
that brings up Permissions for that particular website to send you Push Notifications.

Re: Spam Notifications
I had a random site that was allowing push notifications. I switched it to blocked and I'll respond in a day or two if the spam has stopped. I must've clicked on a link by accident or something. Thanks for the advice!

Re: Spam Notifications
Nasty "feature from hell" in Firefox....
This should completely disable those horrible push notifications, so that Firefox won't ask your permission again:

Re: Spam Notifications
They can actually be incredibly useful. I get YouTube, Facebook, and Skype notifications which are all very useful. Obviously if you enable push notifications willy-nilly, without considering the source, then that's a different matter, isn't it, OP?

I think over half the sites I visit pop that garbage up. Not once have I wanted to click Allow.
Re: Spam Notifications
This fixed everything! Thanks so much for the suggestions guys. FF should be less spammy now
Re: Spam Notifications
Bizarre. Maybe it's a bug. You're meant to be asked to allow or deny the site's request to send push notifications. Oh well, at least it's sorted now.
