[solved] broken openssh-server package

Post by maXmo » Fri Mar 02, 2018 11:27 am

Trying to install ssh server on mint 18.3 xfce, software manager says openssh-server is not available, synaptic shows strange dependencies and then marks the package as broken. Is it a known issue or I did something wrong?

Likewise can't install samba package 4.3.8, because its dependencies are at version 4.3.11.

And TightVNC can't send files. What options do I have to communicate with linux machine?

2018-03-06: after updating package lists the problem went away.

Code: Select all

$ apt policy openssh-server
openssh-server:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1:7.2p2-4
  Version table:
     1:7.2p2-4 500
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages
$ aptitude why-not openssh-server
i   ssh-askpass-gnome   Depends   openssh-client | ssh (>= 1:1.2pre7-4) | ssh-krb5
p   ssh-krb5            Depends   openssh-server (>= 1:7.2p2-4)
p   openssh-server:i386 Provides  openssh-server
p   openssh-server:i386 Conflicts openssh-server
500? Our network uses http proxy, maybe I misconfigured it?
Acquire::http::Proxy "http://PROXY.LOCAL:3128";
Other packages install just fine.

The problem is not apparent from those results :?

Do you have any ppa or non-official mint/ubuntu repos enabled :?:

List them with inxi -r

Hi, apart from installing ROS I cant think of anything. Havent run any mysterious install scripts as far as I can remember. I think I'll just cut my losses and do a fresh install of 15.10 since there doesnt seem to be an easy fix, and this is all a little over my head

Also is there a way to resolve the samba conflicts?

FWIW, Tux Commander can connect to SMB shares, so with this and VNC I can communicate with the linux machine.
