SOLVED GPG error: ... signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available

Post by Flemur » Wed Mar 07, 2018 11:04 am

SOLUTION: run mintsources (here's the output)

Code: Select all

$ gksudo mintsources
Executing: /tmp/tmp.3mLEDTUG7n/gpg.1.sh --keyserver
keyserver.ubuntu.com
--recv-keys
451BBBF2
gpg: key 451BBBF2: public key "Linux Mint Repository Signing Key <root@linuxmint.com>" imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg:               imported: 1  (RSA: 1)
$
--> Authentication keys --> Enter 451BBBF2
The output looks like it did the --recv-keys operation with keyserver.ubuntu.com NOT keyserver.linuxmint.com even though it was complaining about linuxmint.com
Edit: mintsources -> Reset to defaults didn't work.
/SOLUTION

Hi, happy Wednesday!

Updating w/terminal or synaptic or mintupdate produces (<CR>s added so readable):

Code: Select all

W: GPG error: http://packages.linuxmint.com sylvia Release:
The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key
is not available: NO_PUBKEY A6616109451BBBF2
W: The repository 'http://packages.linuxmint.com sylvia
Release' is not signed.
It's been going on a couple of days and I haven't knowingly changed anything (to do w/repos) recently.

This possible fix times out:

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.linuxmint.com --recv-keys A6616109451BBBF2
Executing: /tmp/tmp.rfMG3ju5BP/gpg.1.sh --keyserver
keyserver.linuxmint.com
--recv-keys
A6616109451BBBF2
gpg: requesting key 451BBBF2 from hkp server keyserver.linuxmint.com
gpg: keyserver timed out
gpg: keyserver receive failed: keyserver error
$ ping keyserver.linuxmint.com
works OK.

$ inxi -r

Code: Select all

Just to confirm, the server is working fine. Updated my XFCE test box a moment ago and went through without a hitch.

What do you get if you run apt-key list?
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Running Mate 18.3 64 bit (by upgrade from 18.1-2)

Thanks, I was wondering about that.

Don't know what you do next, except I notice trusted.gpg is gibberish when opened in a text editor, so that's out.
