For graphical applications in KDE, you'd want to use kdesudo, for example...

Code: Select all

kdesudo dolphin
...and...

Code: Select all

kdesudo kate

kde changed dolphin and kate, so that you cannot run dolphin as root, so even kdesu no longer works. Some distros patched dolphin to continue allowing sudo, and I'm wondering if mint has patched dolphin and kate. Try it, and see if it works...

Does SUDO_EDITOR=kate sudoedit /path/to/file work in the case of Kate?

I try to stay out of KDE as much as I can but it appears they adopted the MacOS way of doing things.

If I open up dolphin as an ordinary user and edit a file I can't when I go to save it I am prompted for a sudo password:
KDE-Root-To-Save.png
Or if I open kate directly as in:

Code: Select all

kate /etc/samba/smb.conf
I will get prompted for sudo password when I try to save it.

Please try with a file that actually needs elevated privileges to modify it.

For example, SUDO_EDITOR=kate sudoedit /etc/skel/.bashrc.
