[SOLVED] Red shift how to be always on?

Post by pc999 » Mon Mar 12, 2018 7:40 pm

Hi,

Anyone can tell me how can I put red shift always on? Sometimes my eyes are really tired and even during the day the blue light filter helps a lot, it would be quite good if I could just leave it always on, like on Gnome or even W10.

Thanks.

Your monitor may allow adjustment via the monitor's menu--this may be the easiest approach to what you are wanting.
You can adjust your display gamma in Mint.
Just drop the green and blue values by a comfortable amount.

Hi,

Many thanks but I cant find a solution there, because I am using a laptop with a intel chipset. And the xgamma "trick" does not have the intended results because while the colours do change as expected the white stays the same, way to bright, instead of the yellowish colour that the redshift provides.

Any other suggestion?

Thanks, I am a bit of a newbie and I can't find it there, I guess on Mint is in a different place but I can't find where. Even then I am not sure I could do what I want.

Thank you both, already done that, the application does start when the pc boots. My problem is that during the daylight hours, it does not filter any blue light, because it is adjusted to the hour of the day, and only when it is night it does start filtering.

What I want is for it to filter the blue light during all day, no matter the time of the day.

Just guessing...

If you create a new txt file and name it redshift.conf
Copy paste the entire configuration file from the link into the .txt
Then place the file in Home/.config ( press ctrl + H to see that folder )
have a play with this section

Code: Select all

; Set the screen brightness. Default is 1.0
;brightness=0.9
; It is also possible to use different settings for day and night since version 1.8.
;brightness-day=0.7
;brightness-night=0.4
; Set the screen gamma (for all colors, or each color channel individually)
gamma=0.9

Guessing again play with the numerical values in this part

Code: Select all

;brightness-day=0.7
maybe =0.4

Of course I've no idea if this will work :D

I had a look at the redshift-gtk.desktop file in /.config/autostart but see no obvious edit to get it going, as required, earlier in the day.

create the file named by Mattyboy .config/redshift.conf and enter the text below, save redshift.conf

Code: Select all

[redshift]
temp-day=3700
temp-night=3700
gamma=0.8
adjustment-method=randr
logOGG/ON should be night time all the time then

First of all, sorry for the very late reply, I had several problems that prevented me from coming here.

Anyway. Thanks you all :!: :!: :!:

That worked :wink: , I will mark this as solved, although it would be nice a update to the redshift app to make its configuration more accessible to people like me.
