It's been a long time since I last used my desktop camera in Linux. I would appreciate any advice from this forum on how to check my camera. Thanks very much.

What is your version of Mint and what is the desktop environment? Which kernel and which architecture? If you don't know open a terminal and enter:

Code: Select all

inxi -Sz
Paste the output here.

You need to give this information for every help request in every thread.
Do not forget this in the future.

In Cinnamon you can use the function in the account settings to change the thumbnail for your account.

Cheese should automatically detect your camera.
Another good one to test your camera from terminal is luvcview:

Code: Select all

apt install luvcview
For latest visit: SpaceEdge

cool and Cosmo,

Thanks for your prompt and helpful response. As a webcam app and tester, Cheese 3.18.1-2 works out perfectly and easily even though luvcview is unavailable in Linux Mint's Synaptic.

I thought I always had most of my Linux system information in the Signature area automatically (listed immediately after each message) as
Julianvb: Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya 32bit, Desktop Cinnamon 3.4.3, Jetway mini-mothboard with Intel Atom N270 CPU, 2gb Ram, 64gb ssd.

Listed below is the output of

Code: Select all

 inxi -Sz
System: Host min5 Kernel:4.8.0-53-generic i686 (32-bit)
Desktop: Cinnamon 3.4.3 --- Distro Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya
I'll amend my system info in my Signature accordingly.

There is not the least timely relationship between a signature and a post. Out of this and other reasons signatures are disabled from display here. A system spec belongs to the same place as a question.

I don't know about "luvcview", but I use guvcview and/or cheese.

bjimh,

Thanks for introducing me to Guvcview. It's comes with many adjustment features and I like it very much. I think cool meant guvcview when he wrote luvcview. Thank you both just the same. It is always good to have more than one tool to use for any job. Cheese is extremely easy to use.
