autokey only works if minimized on LM 18 (sarah) cinnamon

Post by klj » Tue Apr 17, 2018 4:22 pm

I installed autokey-gtk on three Linux Mint 18 (sarah) cinnamon systems. I observe that it will only type phrases successfully if the autokey application is minimized. Otherwise, the phrase hotkey makes the phrase menu appear, and a phrase can be selected, but no output to the current window occurs. After that, autokey is usually hung, and must be forced to exit.

I do not observe this behavior on a Debian 9.4 system with Gnome, for comparison.

I have a work-around (minimize the application), but this may be useful to others who encounter this problem.

Here is information about one of the Mint systems:

I just added AutoKey to the startup list, and then I kill it when it shows up.
the big 'A' stays stuck on the Panel and °F still works for me with just a Alt-c

so, it does not need to "stay minimized" for me, it is just gone from view.

I'm running 18.3 Cinnamon if that makes any difference?
