Before posting on this site I always verify I have the latest version of Linux Mint Cinnamon installed and run Update Manager.

Re: Where is Conky?
Thanks for the instructions adminastrollaatior.
I also would like to try to install Conky.
However, I was unable to correctly employ the terminal instructions. I am not clear on just what entries are cut and pasted as either discrete entries, or full entries.
I will post my results, which might make my question clearer. Maybe I should go back to a basic thread explaining how to read terminal instructions from a post, and how to use them?
Anyway, here is the result:

Re: Where is Conky?
I am clearly well out of my depth here!
Besides, it was a frivolous idea of me to pursue it in the first place. After all, I have sufficient monitoring facilities in my KDE desktop.
I will abandon my enquiry, at least for the time being.
Thanks for the replies anyway...........

Re: Where is Conky?
I've just tried to install conky with the exact same experience. I've been using mint for about 4 years and had never been very adventurous because I was using a very old and limited PC. I wanted to try conky and as of right now, it seems I have completely wasted my time. I think it is unacceptable and frankly embarrassing for mint that you can select and install something from the software manager and then cannot find it. Why does this well-known, old, common piece of software not have a graphical interface for configuration?rustyp wrote: ⤴Sat Apr 21, 2018 1:32 pm Installed Conky using software manager no errors given look at desktop nothing, type "Conky" in the Start menu search thing nothing reboot nothing, go back to software manager and uninstall assume it uninstalls no errors given reinstall same thing cant find follow link from software manager https://github.com/brndnmtthws/conky can not find help there, no instructions.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

You don't have to change anything, but "touch .conkyrc" doesn't do it.

See above. It's not really a GUI, run it from a menu program like a task-manager where you change settings, it's a light-weight system monitor that runs from a configuration file, namely ~/.conkyrcI think it is unacceptable and frankly embarrassing for mint that you can select and install something from the software manager and then cannot find it.

conky-manager
is the program that you want. conky is the command line application and conky-manager is the interface for itnot sure if it's new repos first search your software manager if not there then you'll need this ppa https://mintguide.org/effects/165-conky ... -mint.html
not sure who i'm responding to i see the OP hasn't made any comments besides the original;

I deserved that.
Reminder to self: don't post comments on message boards when you are already pissed off about 35 other things that have nothing to do with this topic.
Anyway, I'll give the recommendations a try tomorrow and thank you to all.
Re: Where is Conky?
HE he this forum is mild compared that to any arch linux forum where they are brutal and take no prisoners. or in KaOS linux forums you just try to explain why you want .wine installed on your system and you'll be put against the wall for even thinking of something so absurd. i too get lippy many times and suffer consequenceschu pacabra wrote: ⤴Thu May 03, 2018 3:35 am Reminder to self: don't post comments on message boards when you are already pissed off about 35 other things that have nothing to do with this topic.
