[SOLVED] Driver installation froze before it completed

Post by otacon14112 » Tue Apr 24, 2018 3:51 pm

I use a Mint system on VirtualBox to do most of my programming and design. Well, today I needed to install some stuff, and the vm froze during driver installations. Will it eventually finish? Should I force quit it? It's been frozen for about an hour.

Here's a link to the screenshot, since it would be too small to see if it was 480 pixels high.

I was installing virtualbox-guest-x11, and intel microcode.

I'd kill it, reboot and start over. But that just me (=disclaimer!).

You do not need those drivers and you should not try to install them. Install the guest additions from the device menu of the VM.

Which version of VB
What is the Mint version in the VM?
And for completeness: Which OS has your host?

Haha, I thought about scaling it, but I don't like enlarged pics because of the blurriness. I wanted to preserve the resolution. I decided to go ahead and kill it. I had saved some snapshots of the system, but I wanted to know the "proper" way to handle it. Thanks for your advice.

Ok, thanks for the info. I didn't know that wasn't recommended. Good to know for the future.
VB: Version 5.2.10 r122088 (Qt5.6.1)
Host: 18.3 Sylvia
VM: 18.3 Sylvia

Your VB version is not up to date.

Besides that: Install the guest additions from the device menu of the running VM. Do this also every time, when you update VB.

I didn't scale or enlarge it, I just cropped out the part which had nothing to do with your question and saved it as a jpg, which reduced the size from 769kB to 49kB.
