Kodi 17.6 issues on Linux Cinnamon 18.2 64 bit

Post by kelownafornian » Wed Apr 25, 2018 6:15 pm

Hi, I've spent a couple days researching this issue because I don't like asking for help but so far no luck!!

I've installed Kodi 17.6 from the kodi tv site using terminal. Everything went fine, imported my music, added a visualization tested it ... good!
So I added an addon Neptune Rising and Placenta, those went OK but had some weird "youtube" box come up asking me to set up an account. I got rid of that!

I watched a TV show and the audio sync was off, I adjusted that in the settings but still it was off a bit (livable)

Tried to install another addon for Exodus or Genisis Reborn, checked the URL, installed and opened the zip, all good. Tried to install the repository and got the error "COULD NOT CONNECT TO REPOSITORY" but it never even looked OR I got the blue wheel spinning for over half an hour and nothing happened. Neither are what I wanted! haha
Thought maybe it was just that URL so then I tried about 6 others, same exact result so I think something is messed up in my Kodi build??

So wondering if anyone had any advice?

I was thinking maybe I should drop down to the 17.3 build that I have been using on a different laptop for about a year??
Best way to delete all things kodi and start clean?

Thanks! K

Did complete removal and purge via terminal after I tried downgrading to a lower stable version
remove ppa's left over from purge on software sources.
Icon / software is still there! So I checked in the Software tool and uninstalled it from there (got rid of icon)
moved the library log from home folder to a folder so it wouldn't be found.
Restarted computer again.

reinstalled via terminal back to 17.6 clean. Installed Exodus, (good), installed Genesis Reborn (good) imported music and one visualization THEN I made the mistake of going to Skynet. It tried installing You Tube!! After that nothing would install again! Fricken youtube garbage! So I'm guessing that's my issue. Now whenever I go to watch a show and the video is about to start in Exodus - it shuts down, in Genesis Reborn the screen freezes after showing the feeds so I MIGHT have to go back to using my windows PC for watching Kodi : ( I don't know what else to do and I've read the whole day again so it's getting old haha

Being a newb at something bites!

If you have any ideas I'd like to hear them...
Cheers!

I had the same issues and found this solution in the forums that solved my problems:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi
It might work for you as well.
