Cinnamon weather desklet is there one for Mate
I have 17.3 installed. With Cinnamon there is a very nice default weather desklet 2.9.2
http://www.oak-wood.co.uk/oss/other/bbcwx
Once installed it can appear on the desktop.
I have not been able to find the same type of thing in Mate. The only thing I have found is an app named weather report but it is limited and will only show up in the panel.
Anyone know if I can the weather desklet to work with Mate?

I use "My-Weather-Indicator" from here:

Linux Mint 20.1 MATE

Thank you, I found it.
Now I have to remember how to compile a tar file. I've become so accustomed to DEB files and my memory isn't what it was at one time.

There's a PPA as well:
Maybe that helps
Code: Select all
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:atareao/atareao
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install my-weather-indicator
Linux Mint 20.1 MATE

I saw that and got it. I am running 17.3 Rosa. When I went to install it I received a message that I have unmet dependencies. I'm thinking the PPA may be for a newer version than Rosa. Weird that it would work in Cinnamon??
"The following packages have unmet dependencies:
my-weather-indicator : Depends: gir1.2-osmgpsmap-1.0 but it is not installable"

I run MATE and use my-weather-indicator and love it.

Hi urdrwho,
Glad it is working for you.
These are two of the best (and my favorite) desktop weather applications. You can start ether one with your desktop.
Both have many really nice options.

Re: Cinnamon weather desklet is there one for Mate
GIS weather application has stopped being friendly with Gismeteo. Even thought I have an API, I can't get it to work with Openweather, I can get it to work with Yr but the darn thing will only update every 60 minutes. That 60 minutes is a big difference when the summer months are hitting and the temp can be 65 F at 10AM but by 11 AM the temp is 77 F. I read someplace that Gismeteo needs to update something in their English site.
https://github.com/RingOV/gis-weather/issues/35
"Gismeteo update your english version site. That's why gis-weather stopped working with gismeteo.
I recommend use OpenWeatherMap, because it is free service. You need get API key only. "
The Cinnamon weather applet was very good and we used it for a long time without problems. Years ago if I remember KDE had a very good weather widget.
What's Gnome-weather that is in the repository? Apparently it is nothing because I installed it and it would never load.
