Needing Help with Blather speech-recognition software

I need a file named gstreamer0.10-pocketsphinx for Blather but I can't locate it in Linux Mint 18.3.

I'll appreciate very much hearing from any Linux Mint users who have been able to make Blather work. A simple step-by-step example will be a great help to me, a total neophyte to Blather.

This file was last used on Debian Jessie https://packages.debian.org/jessie/gstr ... cketsphinx as gstreamer has gone to 1.0 version. You should find gstreamer1.0-pocketsphinx in your repository which is essentially the same file. If you had to use the 0.10 file because the game requires that exact version you could download and try installing it using gdebi, which hopefully will deal any dependency problems and all the problems of using an incorrect version file for your OS. You should try asking on their forum before you try anything too radical. Best of luck with the game.

cafunux,

Thanks very much for pointing me the source of gstreamer0.10-pocketsphinx. This is my first time to venture into speech recognition. Linux Mint 13.8 does come with gstreamer1.0-pocketsphinx. but when I run

Code: Select all

 ./Blather.py
, I get the following response
YAML is not supported. ~/.config/blather/options.yaml will not function.
hello world: echo "hello world'
no element 'vader"
you may need to install gstreamer0.10-pocketsphinx.
I've just downloaded this package gstreamer0.10-pocketsphinx_0.8-5_i386.deb, how do I install it and where? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I just ran this in terminal to see if it's in the 17.3 repos ...

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy gstreamer0.10-pocketsphinx
... and it's there. I suspect it's in the 18.3 repos too. Copy/paste the above command into the terminal and if it's there it'll show it. If so install that instead of a .deb.

Hoser Rob,
Thank you very much for your suggestion, which produced the following system response when I ran it on LM18.3.

I suspect that it may have been removed from repositories newer than LM17.3.

Hi Cafinux and Hoser Rob,
I've added LM17.3 to my computer and re-run Blather under LM17.3. I am totally new to Blather and have used the following steps to install and run Blather. Your correction will be much appreciated.

Code: Select all

sudo addd-apt-repository ppa:git-core/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install git
git clone https://gitlab.com/zezra/blather.git
cd ~/blather
./Blather.py
I renamed the commands.tmp and options.tmp files as .conf files before entering the last command listed above.
lm17.3-blather.png
I find that my computer includes two blather directories, one is ~/blather and the other ~/.config/blather with ~/blather containing many more files. I've contacted jezra, the author of Blather and Jonathan Kulp, who wrote his own Blather.py a few times for help. Since I'm a neophyte, it's not easy to interpret their advanced advice.

Flemur,
Here's a better image. I'm sorry that somehow I lost your post here.
