I have Mate Rosa installed on an older 64 bit computer and except for a screen saver and display to sleep problem, it runs fine.
Sometimes the screensaver will not come on at all; sometimes the display will go to sleep.
Because of screen tearing in Nouveau, it is running the Nvidia driver. Not sure where to go or what to do and any ideas would be helpful.

This problem has been solved. I removed Mate screen saver program and installed xscreensaver
sudo apt purge mate-screensaver mate-screensaver-common && sudo apt install xscreensaver xscreensaver-data-extras
But in the end I had to
sudo apt-get install xscreensaver
Xscreensaver has a lot more options and everything is working as it should on the computer.
