Desktop icons - Cinnamon

Post by pinnerite »

i like to line my icons up vertically on the right of my primary screen.
I can do that but when I reboot, although still on the right they are disordered.
Can that be fixed?

Which Linux Mint version? If you're not sure open System Info from your menu or run inxi -S from the terminal.

How are the icons disordered? In a different order, no longer aligned to a vertical grid, or not using the entire height of the screen?

Desktop icon layout has been improved in Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon but perhaps the issue here is with dual screen.

It is Mint 18.3.

What appears is a vertical line of icons as expected but one is now on top of another.
Elsewhere a gap appears between one group and the remainder.

I think the problem exist because of the way you shut your computer down. Arrange your Icons the way you want, run your computer for a couple hours after doing this then use Menu/Quit. When the Little Window appears, click shut down or restart, let it do it thing. When the computer restarts, see if the Problem is fixed.

Unfortunately, you omitted which 18.3 (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce)

If you have Cinnamon, right-click on the desktop and set:
