Try opening a terminal and enter:

Code: Select all

gksu mintinstall
Then copy/paste the terminal results to this thread.

Also be sure to include information about your system when you need help.
The best way to do this is in a terminal enter:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Copy those results, and then open a reply window in your thread.
Click the code </> icon above the window then paste the results between the brackets.

you really need to Tell Us More - - what version of LinuxMint are you using ?.

are you using the Software manager in the Menu Tree ? or the Update Manager in the TaskBar?.

The software manager should not be run as root. Please run it in user mode.

The software manager should not be run as root. Please run it in user mode.
This is why more information is needed re your installation.
Just run:

Code: Select all

mintinstall
That should open the software manager and log it's actions during start.

Got this

Code: Select all

Detected system architecture: 'x86_64' (using 'x86_64')
load_cache took 311.144 ms
add_categories took 2.100 ms
build_matched_packages took 0.098 ms
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Restarted the system. Still doesnt work.

Hello, Frldyz.

In order to get closer to the root cause of the problem (hopefully), I would like to ask you to do the following steps:
  • Open a terminal window.
  • Execute the commandline

    Code: Select all

    inxi -Sr
exactly as it has been typed here. I.e. the option is: hyphen, capital S, lowercase r.
Mark the complete screen output which inxi will display, copy it and paste it into your next reply.
This will tell us your exact Mint version and tell us, too, which software sources your system uses.
  • Next execute the commandline

    Code: Select all

    sudo apt-get update
sudo will ask for your password. While you type it you will not see any visible feedback. Type your password and press enter.
Again mark the complete screen output which apt-get will display, copy it and paste it into your next reply.
This will tell us whether your system experiences any problems in querying the software sources for the current software list.
The idea behind this exercise is that mintinstall (Software Manager) sometimes reacts in a very drastic way on problems with the software sources.
Such a problem might be the root cause.

Best regards,
Karl
