Gimp 2.10.4 has no maximize button.

Post by HotTunaCartel » Sat Jul 07, 2018 3:36 pm

Hey all, still a newbie here but I'm confused about something with gimp.
I installed 2.10.4, it looks awesome! but when I open a file it resorts to a smaller window like https://imgur.com/a/q3qv7sK
When I first opened it after installing it started in full screen mode which is what I like. If I go into edit-preferences-themes I can reload the dark theme and then it stays full screen after that.
I tried searching for a similar thread but didn't find anything.
I am running Linux Mint 19 Tara, not sure what else I need to add.

Thanks

Just a guess, but try
Gimp menu-bar->Windows->Single window mode (turn it off/on/off)

Mint 19 == Tara, but we should know your desktop (Xfce, etc) - you might be able to maximize the gimp window from the OS (system) toolbar. (rt-click on the gimp icon...)
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?

not sure how to display my desktop type

I forgot to add, I can unselect single window but I don't like that style.

edit: it has something to do with the docks. If I choose hide docks it goes back to full size window with the maximize/minimize window. Really weird

edit edit : FIXED. Its something with the main gimp dark theme. I loaded up my other dark theme and it works fine now.
Thanks

I've found a simlar thing with GIMP 2.20 installed via flatpak - I first found it in LM18.3 MATE, and it persisted into LM19 Cinnamon. For me, the single mode window was maximised far beyond the screen resolution, resulting in the bottom buttons of panels not being visible.

Switching between themes in the session immediately resolved the issue - unfortunately, for me the fix doesn't persist between sessions. At least it's more usable now.
The themes appear to be buried deep in the flatpak, so I can't see how to edit them.

Paste inxi -Sz in a terminal window and press enter. Having this info may help with future questions you have.

Thank you for that info, I saved it in my profile. Unfortunately it went back to the original window size, I think I might just learn how to deal with the multiple window session that is standard.

I have the same issue, but it does not appear to be related with the themes.

There is a workaround reported here:

https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2179618

It involves changing the gimp theme to "Small". Not sure why.
