Compiz and ATI Radeon [SOLVED]

Post by Cariboo »

Hello,
I just installed Gloria on an HP Pavilion d4v which has an ATI Radeon 3200 Graphics and I can't start Compiz.
So I just wonder, does Compiz only work with nVidia?
:?:

Have you installed the Restricted Drivers?

Mint Menu --> Control Center --> Hardware Drivers

and then select the recommended one for your card

I have ATI Radeon xpress 1100 and compiz and 3D games are working fine with opensource graphic drivers.

Thank you, Carl, for the hint....
I checked and got the info that "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" is activated and currently in use.
So, although I'm not aware of installing/selecting a driver, it looks Gloria did all for me when I ran mintUpdate.
The next step would be:
How to start compiz or at least how to get more then one workspace?
:?:

PS:
I attached xorg.conf and it says that the driver fglrx is loaded.

Go to Preferences<CompizConfig Settings Manager<General Options<Desktop Size and choose the number of desktops you want.

Issue solved...it was all my problem, not Gloria's

I got finally "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" when connected via Ethernet with Envy!
(To solve this issue took a while because I live at a rural area where only Dial-Up connection is available. I had to find a place with cable first because wireless doesn't work either  )
Compiz starts during boot time, nothing to worry about, it just works fine!
(My problem was that I didn't add the "Workspace Switcher" to the panel, therefor I saw only one workspace  )

Sorry for the trouble and thanks for all replies!
:D
