Dragging laptop screen to TV

Hi All,
I recently installed Mint 19 Cinnamon for viewing the internet on TV via an HDMI connection. But I’m having problems dragging the laptop screen to the TV, despite having enabled the right settings in “Display.” I usually just see the cursor become a white hand on the TV. Now and again, turning off the laptop and unplugging the HDMI cable solves the problem, but not always. My login password is sometimes rejected, too, even though it’s right.
I’ve tested a laptop with Mint 18.1 installed, and there’s no problem, so I suspect there’s a minor bug with Mint 19. I’d appreciate hearing if anyone knows what the problem might be.
