[SOLVED] "qbittorrent" search function not working!

Post by heavy metal »

Hi guys, I'm having an issue with qbittorrent, the issue is that when you go to the search box to search for torrents, it doesn't come up with nothing, it is like qbittorrent is not communicating with torrents servers, I have friends that use debian, opensuse and arch, and they all confirmed this function does work perfect in their respective linux distros, so this is unique to Ubuntu based distros, I have tested a couple of Buntus based distros like Buntu itself, puppy linux "xenialpup", and the search for torrents doesn't work either, I would like to know if someone using qbittorrent is having the same issue and can confirm this, I would be very thankful if someone could point me to a fix or where to file a bug report, thanks in advance for any help you could offer!

P.S. I have tested "qbittorrent" in MX Linux 17, in the same equipment and network and the search box does work fine.

Hi "heavy metal",

You do not need to search through a torrent client's search function because you can always use a browser to search for torrent links and open them in the torrent client.

Perhaps this information in the link below will resolve this issue with "qbittorrent" ...
[Solved]Missing Python interpreter? - Linux Mint Forums
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=263290&hilit=qbittorrent

FYI: Other torrent clients like Tixati and Ktorrent work well too including with their search functions.

Hope this helps ...

Yes I know, but the search function on qbittorrent is so convenient and faster than searching on internet!

So qbittorrent search box works fine for you on LM 19? if so, I'll be upgrading very soon, qbittorrent has been my favorite torrent client on Linux for years.

P.S. If you get: "All your plugins are already up to date." it means the search box should work without any issues, because it is communicating with the torrent servers, I'm pretty sure of that!

HI "heavy metal",

Just read that link I gave you, install the required missing python packages, and the qbittorrent search function will work. Note that if you are using the Firejail sandboxing app to read that part as well.

Hope this helps ...

@phd21 is correct you do need python installed but i'd assume that all linux have this installed. still have no idea what qbittorrent you use, is it ppa or repo version? or what version of mint and desktop.

HI "heavy metal",

I used the PPA and the information from the link to install "qbittorrent" in Linux Mint 19 and 18.x and it is working with the search functions after installing the python packages, see screenshot in my previous reply.

Hope this helps ...

Update: Ok guys, I have uninstalled qbittorrent from LM repos and followed the instructions provided by phd21 for installing qbittorrent from the ppa's, I didn't have to install the python packages, I just installed qbittorrent from ppa's and now qbittorrent search function works as a charm, so I will mark this as solved, many thanks to "phd21" and all the others that took the time and tried to help me, thanks to all of you, you're awesome guys! :)
