I wanna get rid of VLC cuz I don't use it (in fact I hate it) but when I try to uninstall it, Synaptic says it's gonna remove the multimedia codecs along with it. So, is there any way I can get rid of VLC without losing the codecs?

mint-meta-codecs is only a list file with the standard multimedia programs and libraries that are installed in the Mint iso. By removing VLC, that list file is no longer valid. No problems . . remove away. :)

So if it's gone I won't have problems watching movies with SMPlayer?

Having read the following posts by an administrator, I think no problems will arise.

Next time you may run apt-get install --print-uris mint-meta-codecs via Terminal and manually download only the one(s) you want.
