[solved sortof] LM19 Crossover Office 2013 black screen

Daily driver is a T430 running 18.3 cinnamon with crossover 17.5 running office 2013 and all is good.

Testing out LM19 on another T430 before I commit to updating my daily driver. Copied over my /home partition from the daily driver and did a clean install in a separate / partition. Installed crossover 17.5 (same version as daily driver). Photoshop 7 and kindle run fine but launching any office 2013 app just results in a black window (it's there cos you can click top right to exit, just can't see anything).

Tried deleting the office 2013 bottle and importing it from the daily driver - no change.

Have raised a support ticket with codeweavers, but in the meantime, anybody else had this problem? Will post response when received/solved.

Don't want to do a fresh install of office 2013 cos I've run out of licensed copies. You can re-validate by phone, but its a PITA (on screen it will tell you that it can't be registered on-line anymore and then that telephone support is no longer available - but you can find a phone number on the M$ website).

just to confirm that you have previously Have Exported your "Photoshop 7 and kindle and office 2013"
- to an archived bottle, and that you are now importing those bottles, back into Cx17.5 ?
is that right ?

Three bottles:

• Kindle - just kindle

• Win98 - photoshop 7 and home designer 6

• Office 2013

The kindle and win98 bottles worked without having to archive and re-import (although no entries in the mint menu - so I will archive/import to get the menu entries).

Office 2013 tried both as it first appeared when I booted crossover (given that I'd copied my /home partition so andy/.cxoffice/ was there with all my bottles) AND then deleting it and importing it from an archived copy of my daily driver's office 2013 bottle. Made no difference - black window on any office 2013 app (word and excel).

well - - that was Fun

- installed Cx17.5 onto this LM19.64 Mate
Error - / root is Full

and so I've spent the Last Two Hours, in removing unwanted system files,
from both the installed copy of LM18.2 Mate & LM19 Mate

and the a little Partition resizing of the / root partitions of both systems.


anyway,, the installation of Cx17.5 required the following extra files:
- libglu1-mesa:I386
- liblcms2-2:i386
- libxcursor1:i386
- libnss-mdns:i386
that last file was installed, when the copy of Cx17.5 was finally able to be run up.
& the 1st three were installed during the actual installation.

all of that lot, was just to confirm that launching any office 2013 app just results in a black window .. ..
( and you can't click top right to exit, as you just can't see anything).

& which is interesting, as I've not imported this particular bottle, back into any Linux System,
for some time,, maybe more than a year, at least. .. ..

Thank you for writing in. As it turns out we are aware of problems with MS Office after updating to LM19. These issues are reproducible and we are working to fix this. LM 19 is pretty new and have not been fully tested with Crossover, but this gives an indication where we should start.
I have created a bug for this so i can add this ticket to track the issue and you can be notified of a resolution.

I'll also try a fresh install instead of copying a bottle to see it makes any difference, and I'll have a look at wine. But have to finish the decorating first.

Solved, after a fashion!

• Deleted the existing office 2013 bottle (the one giving me the black screens) and did a fresh install of office 2013 from DVD. Think this used up the last of my licensed copies for office 2013. I did notice that crossover installed a number of additional packages into LM, didn't make a note, it's on my other laptop.

• Fired up both word and excel, both worked, no black windows.

• Deleted the office 2013 bottle I'd just created and imported the office 2013 bottle from my main laptop. It all works, no black screens.

While this works, it is a workaround, when I have to do this for 'real' on my daily driver, it's not going to activate online because I've hit the 3 copy limit. This is a PITA.

So... this is not a problem with LM19+crossover+office2013, more a problem with copying/importing an office 2013 bottle. A crossover problem, not a LM19 problem.

that's interesting, in that the bug appears in CX17x and not in the operating system LM19 series,
as that is what I'd wish to do - - import an saved copy of MS Office, so as to not have to re-use an licence key.

but, you then used up, the last of your available Licence Keys.
and, in having to re-install Office 2013, then that does defeat the whole purpose of exporting an bottle, doesn't it ?

Not really, cos you install office, fail authentication, think it will still work for a trial period. But, importantly, crossover has installed all the extra packages or whatever it needs to run office. So having done this, you can delete the office 2013 bottle you've just created and import the one with the valid licence. Bit of a PITA, but it works.
