Why are "libmadlib" and libk3b7-extracodes" not installed by default when installing K3b
on Linux Mint Mate version 19 ?

Is this one of those legalistic things ?

"libk3b7-extracodes" isn't installed because it doesn't exist.

A better question about libmadlib would be: why would a DVD burner need geometrical mesh/node software?

"MAdLib is a library that performs global node repositioning and mesh adaptation by local mesh modifications on tetrahedral or triangular meshes. It is designed to frequently adapt the mesh in transient computations."

And a better question would be - http://madlib.apache.org/ talks a lot about MADlib without saying anything useful, like what it is or why anyone would want it for anything, but why would an apache webserver need mesh software?

That's sort of strange because I installed it.

If you search for it under package manager it can be found if you search for libk3b7 without adding the -extracodes on to it - why I don't know.

But in any case, after installing it, the warning message that you get when you open k3b about MP3 usage went away.

You are correct but in any case that is what got rid of the warning/error message in K3b.
