Frequent, random freezes, LM19 Cinn, Lenovo Yoga 2-11

Update 2018-11-01: Thought this was solved, but it's not. Cannot identify the problem, and it happens at least once, but usually several times a day.

Hello, all.

Installed Mint 19 Cinnamon, fresh install, on a Lenovo Yoga 2-11 a couple of days after Tara was released. I had occasional freezes requiring a hard reset (no mouse, touchpad, or touch screen input at all). This has only increased since then, as I've updated each new kernel release (4.15.0-20, 4.15.0-24, 4.15.0-29, and now 4.15.0-30). Today it's freezing every 5-10 minutes as I work online (Chrome), with no apparent rhyme or reason.

I'm not skilled enough to troubleshoot what might be causing this, but I'm certainly willing to learn. Is there a way to find out what's causing the lock-up after I've done a hard restart (holding power button until shutdown, then restarting)? Should I maybe revert to an earlier kernel? Since it's a fresh install, 4.15.0-20 is the earliest I've got.

Any suggestions very welcome.

Jack

Try installing ukuu and install latest version of kernel 4.17.x. If it doesn't work you can always boot the 4.15 version from advanced options in grub menu

Thank you! Booting with 4.17.13 now, and I'll see how that goes.

Update: more than an hour in, and so far so good. Will mark solved if I get a couple more hours clear. Thanks again!

Yes, i know it does! :D
I just want to make sure i don't get any more freezes, as they were random and sporadic. It looks like the newer kernel did the trick.

Thank you for your help!

So, no...it didn't work. Freezes are less frequent, but still, several times a day, the Yoga 2 11 freezes completely - no mouse, touch pad, touch screen, or keyboard input requiring a hard restart. Anything I can do after the fact to identify a cause?

So, that was a little beyond my understanding, which gives me something to look into and learn. For now, I'm marking SOLVED again, as the freeze-up has happened only a few times over the past couple of days. I think if it persists, I'll just switch to Xfce, which is probably a bit more suitable for this Yoga 2-11. Thanks gain for your support!

So, I've tried everything I can find to try. New Samsung SSD, several versions of Mint (including Xfce), turned off all effects, modified Chrome settings (disabled hardware acceleration, etc). Went back to Cinnamon since the problem still happened with Xfce.
I know this laptop is not optimal by any stretch, but I'd like to solve this nagging problem.

1. Does anyone else have experience with Mint on the Lenovo Yoga 2-11 who could help me troubleshoot total freezes, which happen at least once, but normally several times per day?
2. What logs, if any, can I look at for clues after a total freeze and hard reset?
3. Is there anything else I might do to nail this problem?
