The POP3/IMAP/SMTP protocols which are required for e-mail programs are deactivated by default for safety reasons. This is to prevent unauthorized persons from accessing your mailbox via POP3/IMAP/SMTP.

GMX mail and mail clients [TIP]
If you want to add a GMX account to your mail client you have to enable IMAP / POP acces in the mail settings in the webclient.
