Hi
before I resort to CLI
is there any way of forcing the display manager, Preferences> Display
to show all standard display resolutions when it cant detect a monitor, even when ones is attached and working
on the HDMI port ??
LM19, cinnamon, kernel -4.17

you may have a difficulty getting any real help with this one due to the fact that you are using an "unsupported" kernel 4.17 series on mint 19...it may not be compatible with your graphics driver etc., causing a resolution problem or monitor detection etc...DAMIEN

it is compatible with the display driver, thats why I'm using it.
Thats the reason it cant detect the monitor, its telling porkies .
I'm only asking its its possible to force the graphical delection, thats not kernel dependent.
If not I'll just have to edit Xorg.conf
