CD burning woes

1. Brasero
On trying to burn an audio CD project Brasero ejects the disk without burning. This is the content of the error log file:

Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?]
So obviously something is wrong with the qt5core package. Can this be fixed? My google mojo has deserted me!

Thank linus for xfburn which did the job.

Any guidance/solutions gratefully received.

"...is Brasero borked..." Some people say there's nothing wrong with it, others find it repeatedly fails. Xfburn receives frequent praise. My choice is to simply avoid the whole GUI bit and use the back-end tools directly...
  • Audio tracks onto a CD-R as a CD Audio disk
    sudo wodim speed=8 dev=/dev/sr0 -pad 01.wav 02.wav 03.wav 04.wav
  • ISO9660 file onto a DVD-R as a data disk
    sudo growisofs -speed=4 -Z /dev/sr0=premastered.iso

I have had problems with Brasero on LM17, but xfburn has always worked reliably on LM17.x and LM18.3.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they ain't.

Hi,

regrettably all three big burn GUI programs are quite orphaned currently.
Not much happens except dialog text translations.

Mute Ant wrote:

Even more regrettably these two are orphaned, too.
(The given examples are supposed to still work.)

Xfburn does not use wodim or growisofs but rather libburn, which also
provides a wodim-like program named cdrskin. The proposed runs for audio
CD and data DVD-R would look like:

Code: Select all

cdrskin -v speed=8 dev=/dev/sr0 -pad -audio 01.wav 02.wav 03.wav 04.wav
cdrskin -v speed=4 dev=/dev/sr0 premastered.iso
("sudo" should not be needed, because the desktop user is supposed to
have rw-permission on /dev/sr0. Option -v causes pacifier texts to be
shown while the program does its work. Option -audio may be omitted since
the file names end by .wav.)

The proposed run for audio CD does not write CD-TEXT. If CD-TEXT is
desired, then the most expressive clear text input format is Sony's
"Input Sheet V07". See example "Content of file NIGHTCATS.TXT" near the
end of
https://dev.lovelyhq.com/libburnia/libb ... cdtext.txt
The sheet file is to be used with cdrskin by option

Code: Select all

input_sheet_v07t=...file.path...
Have a nice day :)

xfburn has been my go to burner for awhile, never had much success with Brasero or K3b. So glad xfburn worked for you as well.

yet, interestingly - - I've used both Xfburn & Brasero to write various audio CDs.
- without any real issues, as well.

but, when burning an ISO to an disk, then it's K3b that is the weapon of choice,,
& even though it's inbuilt MD5 checking is no longer relevant.
