SOLVED: Mint 19 and Virtualbox

Post by thesaltydog »

Hi,

I have just upgraded to Mint 19 and everything was fine. I rebooted in my new OS without any problem.

After that, I noticed that virtualbox was removed by the upgrade process, so I downloaded v. 5.2 from virtualbox.org and installed. The installation went fine and I could run some VM. But... upon rebooting, the system defaults to a terminal, no more GUI. I had to remove virtualbox in order to reboot my GUI.

What's happening? Is virtualbox no more compatible with Mint 19?

There were problems with VB and some kernels, but I thought this was fixed now. What kernel are you running (post the output from inxi)? And which version of VB, latest is 5.2.18, did you download the Ubuntu 18.04 ("Bionic") version for LM19?

I have upgraded the kernel to 4.15.0, and the problem is gone!
Thank you
