Hi Osmario,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum!

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

Where and how are the quotes stored now? You can use a text file like the "fortune" quotes do with a newline and a delimiter character to separate them. There are some applications that can read those like the fortune application and the "variety" wallpaper changer.

Reason: Adding [code] tags. They retain some formatting that makes your output easier to read.

Hi Osmario,

You are welcome...

You can use any text editor to store the quotes as notes or you can create your own database using LibreOffice Base, Kexi, etc... You could even use a spreadsheet application. With text files, It would be good to have a blank line and perhaps adding a "delimiter" character separating the quotes like fortune quotes which use a "%" character on a separate new line to separate the quotes.

If you study the "fortune" quotes files or "Variety" wallpaper quotes, you can see the formats they require to view them. Using various text or hex editors you can convert an existing text file into one that should work with either application I mentioned. There are other posts on this in this forum.

I really like having quotes on my desktop, but unfortunately, there are not many applications or options for this. There does not seem to be any quotes database applications that allow easily managing quotes (adding, changing, deleting, importing or exporting, etc...), and displaying them with various display and desktop configuration options.

Hope this helps ...

If you want to put them in book form with different chapters for different themes etc of your quotes, Kabikaboo is a nice, simple program. You can easily scrub the book parts you don't need or want.
It's available in the Software Manager and/or Synaptic Package Manager.

richyrich

Thanks for your help.
I tried with Synaptic Package Manager but Synaptic didn't find the package.
My Linux Mint is in Portuguese and I don't know if any library is missed.
thanks again.

My bad, I see it hasn't been updated for newer releases. The deb file is available for download here (on the right side of the webpage), once downloaded, right-click and choose to "Open with Gdebi Package Installer".

Caution: if it gives any errors or unmet dependencies, please copy the message and paste it back here in a reply.

Looks like it doesn't like the higher version of Python that is in the newer versions of Mint.

So sorry for giving you a bad suggestion. :(

Hi Osmario,

I updated my last reply which you might want to re-read.

Using a text file is the easiest method to store your quotes and allows applications access to the quotes for displaying them on your computer's desktop if you so desire.

Hi everyone
As I said before I don't intend to show quotes in the desktop as a part of wallpaper or screensaver.
My goal is to get a software which allow to keep those quotes in a place like a database and retrieve them when necessary. For instance, if I need quotes about wisdom, I just will to search for this word (wisdom) at my database...
Thanks for your answers again.
I still looking for.

Hello Osmario
maybe you can use these two applications to manage your texts and search for keywords:

Zim

Zim brings the power of a wiki to your desktop, providing a neat and structured way to take notes and record your thoughts. Each page in Zim is automatically saved as text file with wiki markup, including the ability to link pages and to add other files as attachments. Pages in Zim are also displayed in the sidebar in a hierarchical tree style layout to help organize your notes better.

Recoll

Find (text) documents by specifying search terms.

...you *might* as well be interested (i think) in what is called "mind mapping" software.
So maybe also a look at XMind, FreeMind, Freeplane and the likes...

+1 for Zim
