SOLVED:Automatic Upgrade of Cinnamon 32/64 18.3 to 19.1?

Post by babyblues409 »

Many folks have not upgraded to 19.0 because of the upgrade problems and difficulty in performing the upgrade.
When 19.1 is released will it include a comprehensive automatic upgrade feature that will be stable and make it easy for users to upgrade to 19.1 and avoid all of the issues that were related to 19.0?

Hello, babyblues409.

There will be no direct in-place upgrade path in one step from
+ Linux Mint 18.3 32-bit to Linux Mint 19.1 32-bit
+ Linux Mint 18.3 64-bit to Linux Mint 19.1 64-bit

The in-place upgrade path would be / will be:
  1. From Linux Mint 18.3 to Linux Mint 19, following the steps in How to upgrade to Linux Mint 19
  2. From Linux Mint 19 to Linux Mint 19.1, through the Linux Mint Update Manager, once Mint 19.1 will be available.
The question asked in your thread title, "Automatic Upgrade of Cinnamon 32/64 18.3 to 19.1?", can be answered like this:
  • Linux Mint has never upgraded itself from release 18.1 to release 18.2 or from release 18.2 to release 18.3, i.e. from one minor release to the next minor release, automatically or without explicit command by the user to do so.
  • Linux Mint has never upgraded itself from one major release to the next major release , e.g. from 17 to 18 or from 18 to 19, automatically.
It would be more than amazing, if this approach were changed drastically with the upcoming Mint 19.1.

Best regards,
Karl
