It is now safe to remove the drive notification [solved ... kind of]

Post by O-rion »

Linux Mint Mate 18.3:

When I unplug a usb drive I get a notification "It is now safe to remove the drive".
So far so good.
I'm on a German system -- the message is in English.
And what is worse: it's indicated with a red colour ( I would think red is for danger to tell you not to do things, so blue or green would be what I expect).

The trouble is: sometimes it's still writing and tells you not to unplug yet.
But this is also in English -- and red.
So how should someone without English knowledge (like my husband) know when not to unplug?
Isn't this a bug that should be corrected?
But where to report?

Regards

It's not a bug. Remember these are projects that people create and maintain in their free time. Currently there are still 9,452 strings waiting to be translated into German by volunteers. You can help out with the translations yourself: http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/translation. You'll only profit from that in future versions of Mint MATE though (which should not stop you).

Thanks for that info... didn't find it myself.
I'll surely try to help there.
And yes, I'm aware that people work on this in their free time.

Finally found which application is responsible for this message:
It's caja !
The bad news is: it can't be translated in version 1.22.1 (which is in Mint 19.2) as it's hardcoded.
Just wanted to mention in case someone else is in search.

Thanks for this info. Just was wondering myself too about this "strange" message. But apart from being translated I would choose a different color too for this message window:
Cuz the first message is:
"Do not unplug the drive ->window in red -> which is ok"
"Now it is safe ... -> should be in a green message window!"

Just my two cents. I wanted to write it down on the "mint proposals" webside but I cant find it anymore ... :? Is it gone???

Does anyone have a link?
