Hi MrGrimm,

What version and edition of Linux Mint are you using? If you add that information to your profile signature, we won't have to keep asking for this.

The one thing I really like about Linux Mint Cinnamon and KDE is that they do have a fair amount of applets, desklets, widgets (kde), etc... whereas the "Mate" and "Xfce" editions do not. The "screenlets" are nice and do work for all editions of Linux Mint including Mate or Xfce, but they have not been updated for use in Linux Mint 19.x based on Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic. What screenlets are you interested in adding or using? I really like having the "media frame" for displaying pictures that I want on my desktop in a resizable window and for displaying quotes. It is really to bad that these "screenlets" are not being maintained or updated, or that there is no other software that I know of to replace these with updated versions. The "variety" wallpaper application can do quotes on any version and edition of Linux Mint among other nice features like changing wallpaper, etc...

I was able to install "screenlets" in Linux Mint 19.x Xfce and Mate by downloading the individual packages from the PPA and installing them that way in a particular order for the screenlets interface, then the actual screenlets, but I remember it was a pain to do and required installing other dependency packages as well. The first 2 links below have a method that is supposed to work.

I do not know if you can add their software repository using the instructions in the links for "xenial" (Linux Mint 18.x based on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial) in Linux Mint 19.x. I have found that a lot of software that has not been specifically updated for Ubuntu 18.04+ Bionic (Linux Mint 19.x) can still be installed by downloading the deb file(s) from a PPA and installing those.

running mint cinnamon 19. i really don't care if they're screenlets or applets as long as i can find what i want. just found out about applets searching for more screenlets. what i'd like is matching items, but from what i'm seeing out there that's pretty unlikely. currently have a cpu, memory, download and upload one, a weather one, and a network monitor one. i'd rather have one that is only cpu and memory, one that is network but not just listing the day and week but the month as well, and then the weather one.

Hi MrGrimm,

Cinnamon 19 already has a bunch of great applets and desklets, etc... what are you looking for.

I updated my last reply when you replied, please re-read it because the first links have methods that apparently work and are easier than what I did.

Hope this helps ...

In Cinnamon, go to applets or desklets, click the download option to see many other choices.

There are also other software applications and "indicators" available.
.
====================================================================================
I really like the "syspeek" system tray indicator which works in all editions and versions of Linux Mint to see CPU and memory usage, but I do have to click or right-click it.

These instructions below still work today.

hi phd21!

I'm sneaking into this thread here, looking at the lovely screenlets again for LM19 MATE DE to help ease leaving Cinnamon DE as unpreferred on this old laptop. I have yet to try this: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1089689 ... untu-18-04 as it looks pretty intimidating

and when I try a deb install I get Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: python-wnck

I realize I should start a new topic as this takes OP back to a route not so useful for his issue on Cinnamon where applets and desklets are waiting to be added by the dozens, but thought I'd ask here first to see if you had any quick ideas on this package install error.

Everything listed in the link above can be installed in Cinnamon via the Themes, Applets, Desklets or Extensions settings module.

You might like conky aswell.

hi MrGrimm!

One place to get a good look at conky is the conky showoff thread in LM subforum Compiz, Conky, Docks, & Widgets

another thread in that subforum smurphos mentions a "go to" site for me, owned by Pjotr of these forums and one worthy of bookmarking in handy place as I reference often:

conky on launchpad
conky on github (faqs)

you may also find Tony George's conky-manager useful (he's the dev for timeshift, aptik, uuku, etc...in other words a mover&shaker in community:)
launchpad PPA for conky-manager
and his github

otherwise conky is in Synaptic or use apt for installing sudo apt-get install conky-all

Follow the guide here - https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... forxubuntu

It's run from the command-line - once set up normal practise is to add the command to start-up applications so it launches on user log-in.
Whilst building and testing in the terminal run conky

My conky on the right.

 agreed... I think that dependency is no longer supported in repos so i skipped trying to get screenlets on MATE having abandoned the idea since I got my newer laptop fixed up and upgraded. Now back on LM19 Cinnamon and my fav applets are running
