<solved> Update Manager error - unable to update

Post by g1230g »

Anyone have any thoughts on this error?

"E: python3: installed python3 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 4"

Unable to update due to above error.

Thanks in advance!

I have exactly the same problem as "g1230g" and the same python version as "Bertrand Russel."

Mint 19 Cinnamon.

Thanks for any help with this one. As of 21 November there are now 13 packages offered for upgrade that I cannot download.

For all of you that have installed hplip from HP's site, the error is most likely because you didn't uninstall the version of hplip you already had. See gm10's fix here.

I did follow the link to he other thread and there are multiple options to identify and correct the error. One of the options that did work for me was to run :apt install --reinstall hplip hplip-data

followed by

apt install --reinstall python3

Power down or reboot and re-run update manager...this did work for me and may or may not work for others.

Thanks to MrEen.

Glad you're fixed, g1230g. Happy to have helped.

From the sudden burst of python3 errors being reported, I'm betting the same will fix most people.
