Hello, charroo.

I am not quite sure what precisely you blame Firefox for.
The Amazon website, which permits you to read your Kindle ebooks in your browser, offers the same functionality or maybe only almost the same functionality inside your browser, which your Kindle device offers you as well.
To the best of my knowledge, a dictionary is not part of the default Kindle features. And even if it were, it is the Amazon website, which offers certain functions inside your browser or which does not.
Your browser merely serves as the messenger in this case.

Best regards,
Karl

Hi charroo.

If you're asking for the spell checker, click on Edit > Preferences and in the Language and Appearance section there's a checkbox for Check your spelling as you type.

Hope that helps.

It could be that the Oxford Dictionary content is DRM protected. By default, handling of DRM protected content is disabled.

Try enabling the checkbox at: Preferences -> General -> Digital Rights Management (DRM) Content -> Play DRM-controlled content
