How to Fix Android-x86 8.1 installation on Linux Mint

Post by srkrishnan »

I try to Install android-x86-8.1-r1.i686.rpm on Linux Mint 19.1 64 bit, I followed given Instruction from http://www.android-x86.org/releases/releasenote-8-1-r1

A Error stopped that

Code: Select all

android-x86-8.1-r1.i686.rpm is for architecture i386 ; the package cannot be built on this system
My CPU is old Core2Duo which doesn't support SSE 4.1 and SSE 4.2 So, I should try Android x86 32 bit only.

Andriod x86_64 need SSE4.1, 4.2 https://developer.android.com/ndk/guides/abis

So I am installing Andriod x86 32 bit version.

I've never done this sort of thing but I can tell you this much: that's using a .rpm file, which is written for RedHat/Fedora and distros using their package management system. Mint is ubuntu/debian based so what you'd really want is a .deb file, or ideally a repo based version (those packages are actually supported unlike 3rd party sources).

And using alien to install a .rpm based package in ubuntu etc, as they recommend, isn't actually all that relliable.

So I'd suggest finding a source that's actually packaged for Debian based systems ... Mint 19.x is UBuntu based but It's ultimately Debian based, though not directly as LMDE is.

The x86 package refuses to install on x64 operating systems. Try the x64 package despite of the SSE requirements. It will be slower but hopefully will install.

SSE is not package.
SSE 4.1 is processor instruction set need Android 64 bit
but not for android 32 bit
problem is Linux Mint 19.1 64 bit not allowing to install Android 32 bit .

No the problem is that alien can't build a 32bit deb on a 64bit system as the build dependencies aren't present.

If I were you I'd just try installing the iso in virtualbox.
