Know about any good PIM program for Mint?

Post by Kurt3162 »

If anybody has a nagging feeling of deja vu, it's just that I already asked the same question 3 years ago.
At that time there was no satisfying solution, but things might have changed since, so here goes:

I'm searching for a MS Outlook-compatible PIM ("Personal Information Manager", a calendar and contact program) for Mint.
Please note that despite mentioning Outlook, I only need the Agenda and Calendar parts, I do not need a mail client.

Only one feature is critical: The program need to be able to import easily MS Outlook 2003 (yes, we're cheapskates) calendar and address exports (.pst files, comma delimited exports or some such), so I can update/synchronize my computer from a Windows computer running MS Outlook.

(No, there is no Exchange server.)
(No, there is no Office 350 account.)

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi Kurt3162,

Perhaps "Evolution" might work for you?

Yes, that sounds promising, but the version in the Mint repository is too old and doesn't do Outlook imports yet. (That been said I'm still on 17.2, but since I will install 19.1 soon, I'll definitely check if that one got a newer version, which does Outlook imports.)

Else I'd have to compile it myself, and that's way out of my league...

Hi Kurt3162,

You are welcome...

When you update to Linux Mint 19.x you will get an update for Evolution as well.
Evolution is not just any ordinary email client, but a personal information management application that provides integrated mail, calendaring and address book functionality.

It's in the repos, just install from software manager. The version of evolution in 19.x is a significant improvement on what was in 18.x
